CIFAL Jeju Hosts Workshop on Global Citizenship for Sustainable Heritage Conservation

17 - 20 October 2018, Jeju, South Korea – The International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Jeju (CIFAL Jeju) jointly with the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding under auspices of UNESCO organized a workshop on ‘Fostering Global Citizenship for Sustainable Heritage Conservation in Asia-Pacific’.

This event gathered 23 participants from national and local governments representing 14 countries, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Cook Island, India, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, among others. The 4-day workshop aimed at improving knowledge on topics related to global citizenship as well as sustainable heritage conservation. For this endeavour, the workshop was nourished with in-depth discussions of nine relevant Korean case studies showcased as best practices.

The participants also took part in City-Share methodology activities in which they were encouraged to share best practices from their cities, leading to the development of action plans regarding the enhancement of sustainable heritage conservation and global citizenship.

On the last day, participants also had the opportunity to visit some of the UNESCO Heritages around Jeju Island, such as Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak), Geomun Oreum, and the traditional Seogwipo Olle Market.
