26 May 2026, Hiroshima, Japan – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) invites government officials, private-sector leaders and professionals in ASEAN countries to apply for the Green Economic Acceleration: A Japan-ASEAN Strategic Programme for Sustainable Green Finance, a Japan-funded regional training programme to strengthen Japan-ASEAN cooperation in sustainable finance, green economic development and regional economic resilience. The application deadline is 25 June 2026 (11:59 p.m. JST [UTC+9]).

Through online learning, expert-led sessions, peer exchange, capstone project development and engagement with Japanese institutions and industry leaders, participants will develop practical solutions that can contribute to sustainable growth and green economic transformation in their countries and across the region. 

The Green Economic Acceleration programme will run from July 2026 to March 2027 and is open to government officials and private-sector professionals working in areas such as finance, energy, infrastructure, industry, sustainability, investment, technology and related fields.

The training programme is offered free of charge, thanks to the financial support of the Government and the People of Japan.

Phases of the Programme

The programme will consist of three, progressively selective phases:

Phase I Online Learning (July to September 2026): Participants will engage in asynchronous, self-paced online learning on sustainable finance, green economy and Japan-ASEAN green economic cooperation. Participants will complete online modules, join webinars with experts, engage with peers through an online community platform and submit an early-stage capstone project idea.

Phase II Advanced Thematic Training and Expert Mentoring (October to December 2026): The 200 top-performing participants from Phase I will be invited to continue to a more advanced and specialized training phase. Participants will be grouped into four thematic areas: energy transition; carbon markets and emission trading; sustainable banking and green fintech; and green transformation policy. This phase will include expert-led sessions, peer learning, mentoring from specialists and further development of participants’ capstone projects

Phase III Japan-ASEAN Green Summit (February 2027): Selected 50 top-performing participants will be invited to Japan to participate in the Japan-ASEAN Green Investment Summit. The Summit will include project presentations, curated networking sessions, engagement with Japanese institutions and private-sector partners, and study visits to enterprises in Japan.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the programme, participants will gain:

  • Capacity to design and finance bankable green economy projects, including advanced financial structures and solutions
  • Technical expertise in climate policy, carbon markets and sustainable infrastructure aligned with ASEAN and global frameworks
  • Leadership and cross-border collaboration skills to foster strategic partnerships, mobilize investment and advance Japan-ASEAN green economic integration

Assignments

Participants will be expected to complete the following assignments:

  • Phase I: Complete the online learning modules and submit an early-stage individual capstone project draft
  • Phase II: Further develop the capstone project through thematic training, peer learning and expert mentoring
  • Phase III: Present and pitch the project idea during the Japan-ASEAN Green Investment Summit in front of stakeholders in Japan

Eligibility and How to Apply

This call for applications is open to motivated government officials and private-sector professionals from ASEAN countries who are:

  • Government officials from ministries or agencies related to finance, economy, energy, environment, planning, trade or sustainable development
  • Private-sector leaders, managers, entrepreneurs or professionals working in finance, banking, fintech, energy, infrastructure, industry, sustainability, investment, technology, consulting, project development or related sectors
  • Professionals engaged in sustainable finance, climate policy, green economy, carbon markets, energy transition, green technology, investment or public-private partnership development
  • Interested in developing practical and bankable green economy project ideas
  • Able to participate in online learning activities, webinars, peer exchange and capstone development
  • Proficient in English.
  • Computer-literate, with reliable access to the internet
  • Committed to completing all programme requirements
