July 2022, Dhaka, Bangladesh - COP27 has delivered on a range of key demands of the world’s countries that are most affected by a warming planet. The decision to create a Fund for the climate crisis-driven loss and damage is an outcome that has been strongly advocated for by the negotiators of the most climate-vulnerable nations.

In preparation for the COP27 climate negotiations, UNITAR trained the fellows of the Climate Vulnerable Forum on various aspects of Climate Change Diplomacy. The representatives of the member states of the most climate-vulnerable nations engaged in international negotiations training including UNFCCC simulated negotiations,  media training on the skills required to disseminate information to a wider international audience outside of policy circles and revised key concepts of adaptation, finance, loss and damage, and mitigation.

The 5-days training took place in Dhaka, Bangladesh, a country which itself continues to face severe and increasing climate risks, despite significant gains in reducing the human toll from disasters. UNITAR look forward to the upcoming training activities on Climate Change Diplomacy to build cooperation, knowledge and awareness on climate change issues.
