Alumni story from the Expert in Human Rights Programme
Promoting and protecting Human Rights is a continuous practice that shapes how institutions serve people and uphold dignity, inclusion, and justice for all. To strengthen the capacity of professionals to fulfill this responsibility in an increasingly complex landscape, the Saudi Human Rights Commission, UNITAR, and Majmaah University collaborated to implement the Expert in Human Rights Programme in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It deepened understandings of Human Rights and empowered participants to translate knowledge into effective practice.
The programme engaged a total of 133 professionals in its first phase, followed by 59 participants in the second phase and 31 in the Training of Trainers component. Ultimately, 53 participants successfully passed the final assessment and were awarded a Certificate of Fellowship.
Mr. Majed Abdullah Alanazi
As one of the programme's graduates, my knowledge has increased […] I also expect from myself and my colleagues that our passion and spirit have increased. Enthusiasm, transferring knowledge, and adopting aspects of supporting Human Rights […] it is pure passion […] this passion has overtaken my basic work.
- Mr. Majed Abdullah Alanazi
The programme fueled Mr. Alanazi’s confidence and commitment to advancing Human Rights in practice. Determined to extend the impact beyond his own participation, he took initiative in alignment with his professional values and responsibilities, reflecting his commitment to ensuring the programme’s impact is both practical and sustainable. Drawing on the acquired knowledge, he organized an internal awareness workshop at the Social Development Bank, linking Human Rights principles directly to their work with groups made vulnerable. It introduced a new and well-received perspective and resulted in improved service design and delivery. Mr. Alanazi furthermore reached out to the Salam Centre for Cultural Communication to offer free Human Rights training together with other programme graduates.
Through these efforts, Mr. Alanazi continues to support the practical application of Human Rights principles and to contribute to the sustainability of the programme’s impact.
