8 April 2024 - It is with a heavy heart that we learned of the passing of Mr. Marcel André Boisard, former United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and former Executive Director of UNITAR from 1992 to 2007. The news of his departure has deeply saddened us all.
03 April 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – On 28 March 2024, UNITAR signed a new memorandum of understanding with Microsoft Japan to collaborate on the digital upskilling of workers in Japan and beyond.
28 March 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR and the Hiroshima Prefectural Government signed the Eighth Special Purpose Grant Agreement, for fiscal years 2024 to 2026. Through the agreement, the two entities renewed the partnership that began in 2003 and the Hiroshima Prefectural Government committed to financially support the UNITAR Hiroshima Office’s training programmes over the next three years. Mr. Hidehiko Yuzaki, Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture, and Mr. Nikhil Seth, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNITAR signed the agreement at a ceremony held on 26 March 2024 at the Hiroshima Prefectural Government.
7 March 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Hiroshima Office will relocate its office to the following address effective 11 March 2024. The new facility will continue to be located close to the historic Atomic Bomb Dome and the Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima, offering a view of these symbols of resilience, rebirth, and hope that inspire learners worldwide. 5 March 2024, Nairobi, Kenya – Twenty-five participants from 24 sub-Saharan African countries will join the third and final phase of the “Developing Essential Digital Skills for Women and Youth in Africa: Enhancing Employment Opportunities and Livelihood Development in the Digital Economy” training programme in Nairobi (6-7 March 2024). Participants will take part in in-person workshops and receive expert insights from industry practitioners.
4 March 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division for Prosperity will hold the final session of the “2023 Cycle Women’s Leadership in Tsunami-based Disaster Risk Reduction Training Programme for World Tsunami Awareness Day” from 5 to 11 March 2024 in Nuku’alofa, Tonga. Twenty exceptional learners have been selected from over 200 participants of the programme’s first phase to join the session in Tonga, where they will go on study tours and present what they learned.
22 February 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – Twenty-five women and youth from three sub-Saharan African countries will visit Japan for the third and final phase of the UNITAR training programme “Developing Green Livelihoods for Women and Youth in Africa: Strengthening Food Security, Supporting Climate Resilient Economies”. The participants will visit Tokyo and Hiroshima for an in-person workshop and study tour, from 26 February to March 2024.
15 February 2024, Geneva, Switzerland – On 2 February 2024, UNITAR and Franklin University Switzerland signed an agreement for UNITAR to contribute to the university’s Master of Science in International Management programme.
30 January 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division for Prosperity will hold the “Digital Champions” forum on 20-21 February 2024 in Warsaw as the final session of the digital reskilling training programme for Ukrainian women evacuees in Poland. More than 40 top-performing programme participants will be invited to join the forum, where they will discuss and present data analytics, cybersecurity, or digital graphics and web design.
29 January 2024, Nairobi, Kenya – UNITAR held a mid-term review of its training programme “Developing Essential Digital Skills for Women and Youth in Africa” on 15 and 16 January 2024 in Nairobi. The event brought together ecosystem and industry experts, government officials and partners to share industry and market insights, and mentor and advise the programme participants to optimize their learning journeys.
