4 March 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division for Prosperity will hold the final session of the “2023 Cycle Women’s Leadership in Tsunami-based Disaster Risk Reduction Training Programme for World Tsunami Awareness Day” from 5 to 11 March 2024 in Nuku’alofa, Tonga. Twenty exceptional learners have been selected from over 200 participants of the programme’s first phase to join the session in Tonga, where they will go on study tours and present what they learned.

22 February 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – Twenty-five women and youth from three sub-Saharan African countries will visit Japan for the third and final phase of the UNITAR training programme “Developing Green Livelihoods for Women and Youth in Africa: Strengthening Food Security, Supporting Climate Resilient Economies”. The participants will visit Tokyo and Hiroshima for an in-person workshop and study tour, from 26 February to March 2024.

30 January 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division for Prosperity will hold the “Digital Champions” forum on 20-21 February 2024 in Warsaw as the final session of the digital reskilling training programme for Ukrainian women evacuees in Poland. More than 40 top-performing programme participants will be invited to join the forum, where they will discuss and present data analytics, cybersecurity, or digital graphics and web design.

29 January 2024, Nairobi, Kenya – UNITAR held a mid-term review of its training programme “Developing Essential Digital Skills for Women and Youth in Africa” on 15 and 16 January 2024 in Nairobi. The event brought together ecosystem and industry experts, government officials and partners to share industry and market insights, and mentor and advise the programme participants to optimize their learning journeys.

24 January 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division for Prosperity, together with UNITAR Association, will hold the public forum “UNITAR Nuclear Disarmament and Sustainable Peace” on 10 February 2024 (10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. JST) at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, Memorial Hall. The event seeks to foster the public’s understanding of current geopolitical disputes and nuclear disarmament and encourage participants to consider how to build sustainable peace.

7 December 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – In May 2023, the G7 Summit was held in Hiroshima, Japan, putting the global spotlight on one of UNITAR’s host cities. Ms. Keiko Ogura, a hibakusha (atomic bombing survivor), who has been an invaluable contributor to UNITAR Hiroshima Office’s training programmes, reflected on her meetings with the G7 leaders at the Summit.

28 November 2023, Geneva, Switzerland – On 9 November 2023, UNITAR Division for Prosperity held a programme launch and orientation for the Japan-funded training programme “Developing Green Livelihoods for Women and Youth in Africa: Strengthening Food Security, Supporting Climate Resilient Economies”. Through the programme, 150 women and youth participants from Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe with a passion for development will gain skills to support climate-resilient economies. It will run from November 2023 to February 2024 and have online and in-person elements.
Guests of the launch and orientation included government officials, programme partners and participants of the new programme.
