4 October 2024, Geneva, Switzerland – In August 2024, the UNITAR Future Global Youth Leaders Programme brought around 20 high school students from across China to UNITAR headquarters in Geneva, providing them with the knowledge, skills and experiences necessary to lead in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges. This programme round was completed in partnership with IC Education, a Chinese educational enterprise.

1 October 2024, Nadi, Fiji – On 1 October 2024, The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) welcomed over 70 participants from government institutions, NGOs, and the private sector from 8 Pacific small island countries to the regional workshop for the “Leaders for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific: Sea and Human Security” training programme, in Nadi, Fiji. The Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Fiji, Tuvalu and Nauru H.E.Rokuichiro MICHII as well as high-level officials from the government of Fiji also attended the opening ceremony.

30 September 2024, New York, USA – In a unique youth-focused event, UNITAR and the United Co-Creation Lab hosted a side event during the United Nations General Assembly to explore how co-creation between youth and global leaders can foster sustainable development and inclusive societies. This event, “Co-Creation for a Sustainable Future: Empowering Youth in Global Dialogue”, marked the official launch of the United Co-Creation Lab, an initiative dedicated to bridging the generational gap and bringing young voices into decision-making processes.

30 September, Geneva, Switzerland - In today's complex financial crime landscape, equipping compliance officers with the necessary tools and knowledge to combat money laundering and terrorism financing is more crucial than ever. In partnership with the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Bogota, the Financial Information and Analysis Unit of Colombia, and the University of Antioquia, we are co-creating a groundbreaking e-learning programme designed to empower 27,000 compliance officers in Colombia.

24 September 2024, Geneva – On 2 June 2024, 63 government officials from Latin American countries completed the second edition of a specialized training course on trade, food security, and nutrition, conducted by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The course, delivered in Spanish, aimed to enhance the capacity of policymakers in the region to address the complex links between agricultural trade and food security.

19 September 2024, Jakarta – On 19 September 2024, around 80 participants of the “Leaders for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific: Sea and Human Security” training programme showcased their group projects, envisioning the solutions for the unique sea and human security challenges in their communities.

20 September 2024, Geneva – The United Nations Institute for Training and Institute (UNITAR) hosted a workshop and a panel discussion “AI-Driven Sustainable Solutions – Pioneering Innovations to Overcome Global Challenges” on 4 September 2024 in Geneva to discuss the responsible use of AI for sustainable development.

13 September 2024, Geneva, Switzerland – UNITAR will co-organize a Summit of the Future side event “Intergenerational Dialogue for a Sustainable Future: Shaping Inclusive Society through Digital Power” on 19 September (10:15–11:30 a.m. EDT [UTC−4]) in New York and online. The panel discussion will be livestreamed on UNITAR’s YouTube channel.

10 September 2024, Hiroshima, Japan - On 10 September 2024, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) launched the second phase of the "Leaders for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific: Sea and Human Security" (FOIP) training programme, which aims to equip leaders and officials from Asia’s public and private sectors with the skills and strategies to promote peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. The programme is financially supported by the Government of Japan.

9 September 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – On 4 September 2024, UNITAR launched its 2024 “Women’s Leadership in Tsunami-based Disaster Risk Reduction” training programme with an orientation webinar. The event brought together 572 like-minded participants with a passion to advance their involvement in women’s leadership against disaster risks, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. The programme aims to equip participants with skills to develop inclusive disaster risk reduction plans contextualized to the needs of their communities.
