UNITAR was founded in 1963 and 2023 marks its 60th year anniversary. This year is also an important year for UNITAR Hiroshima Office: it celebrates its 20th anniversary as the only UN agency in this region of Japan. Over these years, UNITAR has provided learning opportunities to changemakers around the world, who help transform their bring change in societies for the better. As we celebrate this milestone, we thank our training participants, partners and you, our followers, for being a part of our journey. UNITAR Executive Director Nikhil Seth's Visit to Hiroshima, Japan in March 2024

In March 2024, UNITAR Executive Director Nikhil Seth paid a visit to Japan to strengthen partnerships across civil society, academia, the business sector, government, and local stakeholders, exploring opportunities for collaboration and innovation in achieving the #SDGs ? During his visit, he engaged with Hiroshima youth, exchanging ideas and insights on peacebuilding initiatives. He also signed the eighth Special Grant Agreement with the Hiroshima Prefectural Government, reinforcing mutual commitment and friendship for a sustainable and peaceful future, and presided over the opening of the new Hiroshima Office. UNITAR Hiroshima Office's 20th Anniversary - Alumni Highlight

UNITAR Hiroshima Office celebrates 20 years of training changemakers from all over the world. To date, the Hiroshima Office has reached over 60,000 learners in least developed countries, conflict and post-conflict states, and fragile states, as well as people living in Japan. Sayf Al- Ashqar, Hosna Shahzad, Mohamadou Bello, Airi Okuyama, Shogo Nakamura and Talita Ola He Ofa Tuipolutu expressed their thanks and appreciation to UNITAR for empowering them with relevant knowledge and skills to be agents of change in their communities.
