UNITAR was honoured recently to take part in the International Conference on Peace from Disasters: Indigenous initiatives across communities, countries and continents.
4 and 8 July, Hiroshima, Japan. The 2011 Session of the UNITAR Series on the Management and Conservation of World Heritage Sites was held in Hiroshima, Japan between July 4 and 8. The Session saw some 30 heritage experts representing 19 countries visit Hiroshima to engage in capacity building in regards to UNESCO's recently released Preparing World Heritage Nominations Manual. Resource Persons included those from UNESCO, ICOMOS, the IUCN and UNITAR.
22 and 29 of July, Abu Dhabi. Workshops II and III of the highly successful UNITAR Fellowship for Afghanistan Programme were recently successfully concluded in Abu Dhabi. Taking place between 22 and 29 of July, the Workshops saw the 54 Fellows and 15 Coaches and Resource Persons examine concepts of leadership and organisational change management.

The UNITAR Series on the Management and Conservation of World Heritage Sites 2011 Session was held recently in Hiroshima, Japan, and was attended by representatives of 19 countries.
14-17 June 2011, Tokyo, Japan. The inaugural UNITAR Diplomatic Training Series Session took place at United Nations University in Tokyo between June 14 and 17 2011. Attended by 19 diplomats resident in Japan, representing 17 nations, the programme examined the impact of culture on the frames of reference and working styles of those involved in multilateral environments.
August 6th marked an historic occasion for UNITAR's Hiroshima Office as H. E. Ban Ki-moon became the first United Nations Secretary-General to visit the historic city. He delivered a speech during the memorial ceremony of the 65th Anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and also presented a floral offering at the cenotaph commemorating it's victims.
