31 May 2021, Hiroshima, Japan - UNITAR Division for Prosperity announces with deep sorrow the passing of the Honourable Kenzo Oshima. A Hiroshima native, Mr. Oshima joined our adovisory board in 2021 and was Chairperson of the UNITAR Association since its establishment in October 2019, through which he led important outreach activities for UNITAR.

25 May 2021, Hong Kong, China / Hiroshima, Japan - UNITAR and ITS Education Asia will jointly launch the UNITAR Youth Ambassador Asia Pacific Programme. The 10-week programme empowers high school students to help our world build back better, greener, and stronger from the COVID-19 pandemic. The programme will debut in Hong Kong in September 2021 with the support of 20 official school partners. It will be expanded to various cities in China in 2022, followed by other Asia-Pacific countries in 2023.

3 May 2021, Geneva, Switzerland –UNITAR is launching its 6-week online training programme “Leading Inclusive 4IR: Empowering Women in Afghanistan for the Future of Work through Digital Reskilling” on 31 May 2021. UNITAR is currently accepting applications until 26 May 2021. Participants will learn skills to excel in the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) while being empowered to take the lead. Conducted in English, the course will cover programming and coding skills, digital literacy, application development, cybersecurity and AI training, and combine it with gender leadership empowerment training. During the final week, there will be an online hackathon to test participant’s skills.

11 June 2021, Hiroshima, Japan – On 25 March 2021, UNITAR Hiroshima Office, Hiroshima Television Corporation, and UNITAR Association jointly hosted a public online forum “Shaping Our Future: Together Looking to the Future of Sports and Peace 25 Years from Now” to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and to reaffirm the central role of the Social Development Goals (SDGs) and the part sports can play in securing a peaceful future of humankind.

26 March, 2021, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR is delighted to announce the signing of the 7th Special Purpose Grant Agreement (SPG) with the Hiroshima Prefectural Government for FY 2021 to 2023. Since the establishment of UNITAR Hiroshima Office in 2003, the Hiroshima Prefectural Government has continuously supported our implementation of trainings.

18 March, 2021, Hiroshima, Japan - Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), in partnership with the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES) and the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC), honoured women scientists, doctors, and researchers and other women working in STEM with a day-long conference, Women in STEM in the Time of the Pandemic – Facing Challenges, Finding Resilience. More than 250 people from 55 countries joined leaders from the public, private, INGO communities.

11 March, 2021, Hiroshima, Japan - Mr. Nikhil Seth, Executive Director of the UNITAR, visited Japan in 2019 and had a productive meeting with Mr. Masamichi Kogai, Representative Director and Chair of the Board of Mazda Motor Corporation. The two leaders discussed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing not only on technical solutions to issues such as CO2 emissions, but also on how we can create a more peaceful and just society to better support vulnerable people. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of the SDGs as a road map for the future has become even greater as a road map for the future.
