Green Economy e-Learning Courses
Green Economy and Trade
Significant opportunities exist for developing and developed countries to achieve long-term and sustainable economic development by diversifying their economies and benefitting from the growing global demand for green goods and services. In this context, sustainable trade can serve as an effective means to advance an inclusive green economy.
To meet the learning needs and build capacities of national stakeholders, UNITAR and UN-Environment are collaborating within the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE), to deliver an interactive e-learning course at the nexus of trade and the green economy. The practice-oriented course seeks to provide interested participants from government, business and civil society with an introduction to various approaches to promote and harness opportunities related to sustainable trade.
Introduction to Green Economy: Concepts and Applications
The UNITAR-facilitated PAGE e-learning course is a foundational course which introduces participants to different concepts and facets of the green economy, as well as the global, national and sector-specific challenges and opportunities associated with the green transition. Additionally, participants develop basic skills for applying the green economy concept in practical context. The course is interactive and each participant creates a green economy action plan which is peer-reviewed by other participants.
To date more than 500 government officials, representatives from academia, the civil society and the private sector from more than 80 countries were successfully trained. Feedback from participants shows that more than 95% of participants are likely to use the information acquired in the course and more than 90% would recommend it to a colleague. In December 2013 the course was awarded the ECB Check Certificate, an internationally recognized standard on quality of e-learning education.
Green Fiscal Reform
Many governments face the triple challenge of reducing environmental risks, while fostering economic growth and reducing poverty. Green fiscal reform as a policy approach can improve fiscal consolidation, spur innovation, and help identify smarter ways for government taxation and spending. Within the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE), UNITAR is developing a new interactive e-learning course to introduce interested stakeholders to a range of concepts related to green fiscal policy.
