Background information

The Legal Writing Course will enhance the participants ability to write clearly and correctly, as it is the basis upon which clients will assess your professional ability. Lawyers must master accurate legal writing to progress their careers. Every document you write should demonstrate that you are a professional, clearheaded, knowledgeable, and accurate lawyer - just the type that clients want to deal with. 

Format

The course will be delivered in the following formats:  

Private: Live one-to-one classes. 

  • Video lessons with a lawyer: 15 private lessons/45 min.  
  • Homework: Twice/week following each class.  

Group: Live Broadcasts, and Homework, and Conversation. 

  • Video lessons with a lawyer: 15 group lessons/45 min.  
  • Homework: Twice/week following each class.  

Pre-recorded: Pre-recorded webinars. 

  • Video lessons with a lawyer: 60 lessons/8-22 min.  
  • Homework: Inter-active quiz following each lesson. Additional exercises with feedback for US$ 99.   

Separate lessons: Pre-recorded lessons. 

  • Video lessons with a lawyer: 60 lessons/8-22 min.  
  • Homework: Inter-active quiz following each lesson.  

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course participants will be able to: 

Communicate legal concepts and information in writing confidently and easily; 

Use legal vocabulary more accurately, concisely, and effectively when speaking and writing; 

Write precise legal texts; 

Use written legal English in real-life work situations confident in their ability and knowledge; 

Use correct English grammar and appropriate tone for written communication; 

Correctly structure written contracts; 

Use written Legal vocabulary appropriate for the situation and context, court, arbitration, mediation, etc. 

Structure

UNITAR

The course will cover essential basic vocabulary and phrases which are most often used in legal correspondence and documents such as contracts and other agreements. It will provide explanations of the meaning and use of archaic legal English, including Latin and Norman French and has the benefit of being more suitable for lawyers who have little time to study but can find 15 - 20 minutes during the day to watch a lesson and then complete the inter-active exercise. 

Target Audience

The course is specifically designed for lawyers who have little time to study but can find 15-20 minutes during the day to watch a lesson and then complete the inter-active exercise.  

Certification

Participants successfully meeting the course requirements would be awarded a Certificate of Completion by the British Legal Centre, accredited by both the British Legal Centre and UNITAR.
