Achievements 2015 and Outlook 2016

The year 2015 was a very busy year for the international community and for UNITAR.  Many global agreements were discussed and agreed upon, starting from the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, which was adopted by 187 UN Member States on 18 March in Sendai, Japan, then the Addis Ababa Action Agenda of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development was endorsed by the UN General Assembly in July.  In September, the world leaders gathered in the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, and 193 UN Member States adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the UN Sustainable Development Summit.  Finally, in December in Paris, France, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change was agreed by 195 nations to combat climate change and unleash actions and investment towards a low carbon, resilient and sustainable future for all.

UNITAR has been involved in supporting the delegates to prepare for some of these conferences, and under the leadership of the new Executive Director who took office in October 2015 with a team of dedicated professional staff that you see in the picture above, the Institute will be heavily engaged in supporting the governments and other actors to implement these international agreements.

Here are a few examples of our key achievements in 2015 and outlook for 2016
