UNITAR Board of Trustees concludes its Fifty-Ninth Session in Abuja (Nigeria)

The Institute’s Board of Trustees recently concluded its Fifty-Ninth Session, which convened in Abuja, Nigeria from 29 to 30 November. The session was hosted by the Federal Government of Nigeria and Board Member, the Honorable Chibuike Amaechi, Minister of Transportation. The session marked the third time in UNITAR’s history to convene in Africa, following sessions in Rabat (2007) and Brazzaville (2011).

Mercury and Minamata COP2

The second Conference of Parties to the Minamata Convention took place in Geneva on 19-23 November 2018. UNITAR Hiroshima Office Winter 2018 Update - Celebrating 15 years

2018 has been a fruitful year for both Hiroshima and the UNITAR Hiroshima Office. Hiroshima’s local baseball team, Toyo Carp, has claimed the Central League Championship for the third year in a row. The UNITAR Hiroshima Office has also been busy and active, celebrating its 15th anniversary since it began operations in 2003.

REDD+ Courses

Two brand new REDD+ courses have just been launched!

In partnership with FAO, UNDP and UNEP, the former REDD+ Academy course was split in two new courses: Fundamentals on REDD+ and Advancing on REDD+! While the first course provides the basics for a good understanding of REDD+ principles, the second provides content for a deeper understanding of how countries can benefit from applying REDD+ at a national level.

Promoting Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships in Support of Road Safety

UNITAR in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria hosted the third Road Safety Multi-Stakeholder Conference, bringing together 94 local and international experts to discuss solutions and share best practices and learnings on road safety legislation and regulation that will help address the issues of road safety in Nigeria.

Building Disaster Management Capacity of Women in Guyana

UNITAR-UNOSAT is currently collaborating with UNDP and national stakeholders to bolster disaster management capacity in Guyana and Dominica, with a specific focus on women, through the 3-year project funded by the Government of Japan.
