The programme will be held in New York on 30 April and 8 May 2019 and will involve presentations by human rights experts.

The workshop aims at enhancing governmental officials and representatives of indigenous peoples understanding of the rights of Indigenous Peoples and the United Nations protection and promotion system on indigenous peoples’ rights. The training programme is structured in four modules, as described below. These modules are structured around the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, ILO Convention 169 and other relevant international instruments.

Module 1: The International Indigenous Peoples’ Movement and Human Rights.

Module 2: International norms and standards: the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, ILO Convention 169 and Other Relevant Instruments.

Module 3: United Nations Mechanisms on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Module 4: Major Issues related to indigenous peoples and development.
