The current COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing global issues urgently command a transformation of our daily course of actions.

Charles Darwin said, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent; it is the one most adaptable to change.”

Adaptation is all about mindfulness to context, learning, and psychological flexibility.

With this in mind, our educational systems need to remain the key pillars and enablers of development - by defining appropriate learning objectives and contents, introducing relevant pedagogies that empower learners, and urging their institutions to include sustainability principles in their management structures.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, UNITAR will host a special Virtual Roundtable on the current priorities pertaining to our educational systems, the next action steps to take and what to consider for the long-term consequences this will have on the transformation of our learning methodologies.

The discussion will bring together international education experts to exchange information on how the current situation is affecting the academic missions of the higher education sectors around the world and to provide answers to the following key questions:

  1. How do we continue to assure quality education in a time of social distancing, home schooling and crises management?
  2. What measures are governments taking to lessen the educational fallout from the global health pandemic?
  3. How can we, as a global union of countries and people, work together to confront this crisis?
  4. How will the educational sector emerge after the global crisis is over?

Please join us for this conversation on the effects of COVID -19 in the Educational Sector.

At the end of this virtual roundtable, participants will be able to:

- Describe how we continue to assure quality education in a time of social distancing, home schooling and crises management
- Define what measures are governments taking to lessen the educational fallout from the global health pandemic
- Understand how, as a global union of countries and people, we can work together to confront this crisis

The virtual roundtable consists of a two-hour panel dicussion covering the following topics:

- Overview of the current situation at universities in the UK / Insights on Responsible Leadership and COVID-19

- Overview of the current situation at universities in the Switzerland, France and Italy / Insights on the financial impact and COVID-19

- Overview of the current situation at universities in the Republic of Korea / Insights on the government support and COVID-19

- Overview of the current situation at universities in Australia / Insights on COVID-19 and its effects on healthcare and education in marginalized communities

- Overview of the current situation at universities in Turkey / Insights on the psychological impact of COVID-19
