Today, many people who call themselves trainers but probably didn’t start their career as trainers. They often work in an area where they develop different skills, build extensive knowledge and then are required to share what they have learned. Many participants have gained good experiences with microfinance, finance related areas, leadership and writing although they come from nearly every field and different countries.

As such, people who work as trainers are often put into difficult situations without much understanding of what training is or how to do it well. We are all aware that being a good trainer is the result of accumulating extensive knowledge and developing skills to bring information to other participants.

The need for train of trainer is universal. With the availability of UNITAR digital platform, we expect the numbers of trained personnel to increase substantially, enabling many more people to access an appropriate training and fulfil their potential.

At the end of the e-workshop, participants will be expected to:

  • Recognize the importance of considering the participants and their training needs, including the different learning styles and adult learning principles.
  • Know how to write objectives and evaluate whether these objectives have been met at the end of a training session.
  • Develop an effective training style, using appropriate training aids and techniques.
  • Conduct a short group training session that incorporates these training concepts.

The eWorkshop will cover the following topis:

  • The Principles of Adult Learning

This session covers understanding adult learning principles and applying it to the learner's context and training practice. It will also explore trainer types and discuss how this knowledge can help participants become better trainers. The session will wrap up with a discussion of the experiential learning process.

  • Course Design and Development

This section summarizes the basic steps of learning cycle and learning process and relate them to that of their learners and their own training practice. It will cover key parts of conducting training including training methods, design and development, as well as appropriate research/ writing methodology.

  • Course Delivery and Assessment

Participants will also explore different ways to communicate with the audience, including telling, showing, non-verbal communication, and using notes.  In addition, this section will also cover the use of techniques and strategies that encourage active learning and higher level thinking. Use of assessment to measure learning when delivering training will also be covered.

This eWorkshop will also include individual and group research and practical activities. Please apply only if you can commit minimum of 6 hours learning time per week.

The eWorkshop will be delivered over a 4-week period with blended self-learning and self-led assignment, group-work, and weekly 2-hour webinar (every Friday). The fourth week will be dedicated primarily for peer review, group presentation, and evaluation. The eWorkshop will be highly interactive and facilitated by an Expert using Zoom platform. Participants successfully completing the eWorkshop assessment will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.
