There is no doubt that youth plays a crucial role in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. They can greatly contribute to tackling global issues with their creativity, energy, and appropriate advocacy strategies. They have great potential to positively impact the society at local, regional, national and global levels.

Now the global society is paying attention to the role and impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) as a means of implementation of SDGs. ICTs are considered as the main enablers that will accelerate the achievement of SDGs.

ICT is vital in driving progress towards achieving each and every one of the 17 goals. It is already empowering billions of individuals around the world by providing access to education resources, healthcare, and services such as mobile banking, e-government, and social media. On the other hand, there are some negative impacts of ICTs such as increasing digital divide, digital addiction and lack of employment caused by the automated production system. Now the question is what should we do as youths? How do we tackle these issues as future leaders?

During the workshop, participants are going to explore innovative solutions to the problems at local and global levels. They will also be sharing their own ideas to address various issues and come up with concrete action plans to accelerate the achievement of SDGs through ICTs.

This workshop is aimed at acquiring new abilities regarding ICT in relation to the achievement of 2030 Agenda, specifically, in topics related to education, health and governance. It will also foster the exchange of knowledge and will explore innovative solutions to the problems at local and global levels.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Strengthen the capacities by deepening their understanding of role, utilization and impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to foster Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Develop concrete ideas to strengthen positive impacts and minimize negative impacts of ICTs
  • Raise awareness of their roles and motivate themselves to be active advocates to contribute to the achievement of SDGs

The workshop consists of the following three components:

Day 1: Lectures and group work

  • Understanding of SDGs and youth
  • ICT and SDGs: Opportunities and challenges
  • Guidance to ICT development plans
  • Group work for developing ICT development plans

Day 2: Study visit to ICT-related agencies and companies

Day 3: Sharing and group presentation on ICT development plans

Learning activities consist of interactive and participatory sessions including lecture, presentation and discussion, as well as field visits and hands-on experience.

This workshop targets national and international university students who reside in Korea including undergraduates and graduates, who are interested in ICTs and youth engagement to foster the achievement of SDGs.
