UNITAR Division for Peace groups together all programming in the fields of conflict prevention, peacemaking, peacekeeping and peacebuilding to provide the most comprehensive support to the promotion of peace, justice and strong institutions worldwide, thereby essentially advancing the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 16. In the view of promoting democratic governance and human rights, the Division focuses on offering innovative capacity-building and knowledge-management solutions for a broad range personnel (including uniformed personnel, representatives of regional and international organizations, United Nations staff, women peacemakers, minority and indigenous peoples’ representatives) working towards sustaining peace, while ensuring that these activities meet the specific needs of conflict-affected and post-conflict countries.
General objectives of the contract
The Pre-deployment Training and Advisory Team is seeking qualified trainers to support training to military contingents on Information Management on a need’s basis. Successful candidates will become part of UNITAR trainers’ roster and would be called upon to support training as needed. A consultancy contract would include travel costs, standard UN Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA), standard Terminal Expenses, as well as a fee.
Technical competencies: ability to train in line with adult learning principles and practices; has experience in the application of training standards, guidelines, and ethics – in particular those related to military pre-deployment training; has a solid understanding of military roles and responsibilities; has a very good understanding of information management at Military level, at the operational and tactical levels; knowledge of all source analysis is a strong asset; has a good understanding of the UN system and its functioning.
Situational competencies: is able to understand, analyze, and attend to the many circumstances that make every training unique, including culture, stakeholders, and context; demonstrates flexibility and adaptability; demonstrate creativity and orientation towards solutions.
Interpersonal competencies: is able to communicate and interact effectively with all stakeholders; is able to work both independently and as part of a team; is able to work under pressure and with limited resources; demonstrates high level of discipline.
Reflective competencies: has awareness of his/her strengths and weaknesses as a trainer and thematic expert and is accustomed to self-reflection on his/her practice; has a strong motivation to develop as a trainer and values continuous learning and professional growth.
Other: is physically apt to deliver military pre-deployment training.
Experience: minimum of 7 years of experience in the army, of which minimum 2 years of field experience; minimum of 3 years of experience on Information Management at the operational or tactical level, of which minimum 1 year of field experience; a minimum of years of experience as trainer within the army or related domain.
Education: secondary school diploma at minimum.
Languages: fluency in English and / or French (written, verbal) is a requirement.
Other: IT skills are required.
Experience of deployment in a UN peace operation is a strong asset.
Military school or academy is a strong asset; graduate or post-graduate degree in a relevant academic field is an asset.
Fluency in any other UN language is an asset.
