20 March 2024, Geneva / Bonn - The world’s generation of electronic waste is rising five times faster than documented e-waste recycling, the UN’s fourth Global E-waste Monitor (GEM) reveals today. The 62 million tonnes of e-waste generated in 2022 would fill 1.55 million 40-tonne trucks, roughly enough trucks to form a bumper-tobumper line encircling the equator, according to the report from ITU and UNITAR.

19 March 2024, Derby, United Kingdom - Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in 2023,  the University of Derby recently hosted the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). The two-day visit started with a presentation on hostage negotiation in Afghanistan, highlighting the role of intergovernmental agencies and local leaders in safeguarding civilians. This was followed by a networking session with MSc Intelligence, Security and Disaster Management students, and staff from across the College of Business, Law and Social Sciences (BLSS).

8 March 2024, New York, USA – Empowering Women in Cybersecurity: UNITAR and Australian DFAT Pioneering Fellowship Programme. The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office, in collaboration with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), successfully concluded the Women in Cyber Fellowship Spring 2024 programme on 1 March 2024. This innovative programme, held at the UN Headquarters in New York, brought together women delegates from diverse backgrounds and developing countries, providing them with crucial training in cybersecurity and international diplomacy.

Participants will take part in in-person workshops and receive expert insights from industry practitioners.

4 March 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division for Prosperity will hold the final session of the “2023 Cycle Women’s Leadership in Tsunami-based Disaster Risk Reduction Training Programme for World Tsunami Awareness Day” from 5 to 11 March 2024 in Nuku’alofa, Tonga. Twenty exceptional learners have been selected from over 200 participants of the programme’s first phase to join the session in Tonga, where they will go on study tours and present what they learned.
