17 December 2012, Geneva, Switzerland – United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) signed a cooperation agreement with the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA: Banque Arabe pour le Dévelopment Economique en Afrique) on 11 December 2012.
Ms. Amal Medani (Associate Director, Training Department and Head of the Governance Unit) and Mr. Mohand Cherifi (Head of Partnerships) visited BADEA’s headquarters in Khartoum, Sudan to discuss with BADEA’s officials means and ways to establish cooperation between the two institutions.
After the two-day discussion, UNITAR and BADEA agreed to develop cooperation through results-based training and capacity-building projects in the target areas of i) youth entrepreneurs and employment, ii) health, iii) environment, iv) project management, v) microfinance, vi) local development and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
For the coming year, the capacity-building projects will focus on African beneficiary countries, specifically Anglophone, Francophone and Lusophone countries.
