The Knowledge Systems Innovation Section (KSI) is now accepting applications from interested and qualified candidates for a traineeship position. The working experience is designed to allow young professionals or postgraduate students to strengthen their knowledge and gain practical experience in the training and learning fields, dealing with a variety of related aspects ranging from innovation and technology-enhanced learning to quality assurance. They will also benefit from working in a vibrant multicultural environment.

The Knowledge Systems Innovation section implements innovative learning solutions and disseminates results to enable the diversification of the Institute’s learning and training portfolio.

KSI is now accepting applications from interested and qualified candidates for a 6-month traineeship, on a full-time basis at UNITAR headquarters in Geneva. Traineeship assignments are not remunerated.

Overview of responsibilities

The trainee will be involved with the overall work and responsibilities of the section, and specifically assisting with research to support new projects and programme management. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting research on entrepreneurship, creative economy, and youth leadership;
  • Analysing country national strategies, particularly Africa & Latin America;
  • Preparing concise briefings on research outcomes;
  • Supporting the identification of partners and fundraising opportunities;
  • Drafting social media and partner communications;
  • Providing administrative support to ongoing projects.

Specific Terms of Reference (ToRs) will be established in accordance with ongoing projects. ToRs will also include learning outcomes on specific skills to be developed during the traineeship assignment.


We particularly welcome applications from candidates with the following backgrounds:

  • Business Administration
  • International relations / political economy
  • International development
  • Communications

A high level of individual responsibility, commitment and initiative, knowledge of MS Office package and IT skills to deal with a variety of tools are required. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator and familiarity with Social Media tools are highly desirable.


Fluency in oral and written English and/or French is required. Knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese would be an asset.

Trainees are not financially remunerated by UNITAR. They receive a monthly lump-sum to cover transportation.
