Mediation Skills

This e-Learning course aims to improve the practical skills of diplomats in international mediation and in understanding the role of the UN in resolving conflicts. The course will offer insights into the mediation process, assess the process of gaining entry into a mediation initiative, and examine the early and later stages of mediation. In particular, it will touch upon the importance of re-framing, active listening, and communication when trying to generate options and crafting an agreement that is acceptable to all parties.

Overcoming Negotiation Deadlocks

e-Learning / English / 4 weeks

This e-Learning course aims to equip participants with the conceptual knowledge and practical tools to efficiently overcome deadlocks in negotiations, and to successfully negotiate towards beneficial outcomes. The course will enable participants to distinguish between different approaches to negotiations, including distributive and integrative negotiations, and train them to better detect “psychological traps” in complex situations. Furthermore, the course will offer to participants a comprehensive tool box for various negotiation situations and stages, including preparation, conduct, and closure of negotiation.

This online course aims to equip participants with the skills to successfully chair a meeting or international conference, as well as to understand and work with whoever is appointed to this position, thereby contributing to the success of such an event and a greater fulfillment of one’s institutional mandate.

Cosmopolitan Communication: Connecting across Diplomats, Business Leaders and Civil Society Actors

Additionally, it is important to learn how to effectively manage constructive conversations.

This workshop aims to equip participants with the skills to successfully chair a meeting or international conference, as well as to  work with whoever is appointed to this position. Participants will discuss common chairman mistakes and best practices, as well as strategies on how to support and cooperate with the chairman.

Public Speaking in a Multilateral Context

Face-to-Face / English, French / 2 days

This workshop is designed to improve participants’ presentation skills. Participants will learn how to construct an oral communication that can captivate and convince an international audience. The workshop will touch upon how to deal with stress of public speaking engagement, how to maximize the impact of a speech, and how to effectively present key messages.

Negotiation Skills and Techniques

Face-to-Face / English, French / 2 days

This training allows participants to frame their negotiation processes, and develop negotiation strategies and techniques in professional situations. At the end of the course, participants will be able to understand the complexity of multilateral and bilateral negotiation and define the attributes of good negotiated outcomes. Participants will further learn how to deal efficiently with tensions, differences, and conflicts in multilateral negotiations.

Effective and Constructive Communication Skills

Face-to-Face / English, French / 2 days

This workshop will help diplomats to enhance their communication skills. With these skills, participants will be able to more confidently contribute to the overall efficiency and productiveness of two-way communications, while forging positive and harmonious professional relationships. After this workshop, participants will be able to apply new communication tools and techniques and list different dimensions and laws of communication. Furthermore, participants will learn best practices for giving and receiving feedback.

Productive Facilitation Skills

Face-to-Face / English, French / 2 days

This workshop will provide diplomats and senior managers/leaders – whose task it is to coordinate or facilitate meetings – with new techniques to ensure productive organization and useful meetings. After this workshop, the participants will be able to facilitate small-, medium-, and large-size meetings; contribute effectively to the productivity of a meeting; apply specific facilitation skills for different audiences; and deal with challenging questions and audiences.
