Overview (quick description of the funded project and its context)

The Communication and Information Technology Support Section (CITSS) oversees corporate communications at UNITAR. CITSS manages communication channels and products, in print and online, as well as internal communication and communication training.

Starting July, some new projects will start soon, such as the renewal of the website, the development of an internal newsletter, and creation of an employee handbook, among others.

General Objectives of the Contract

To assist CITSS in developing communications materials such as articles for the website, brochures, users’ guides and videos. The intern or trainee will also participate in and assist in any or all of the above mentioned projects, as well as assist in maintaining and updating corporate social media streams.

Responsibilities/Description of Professional Services/Learning Objectives

  1. Assist in scheduling social media streams on UNITAR corporate accounts
  2. Assist in writing diverse communication materials
  3. Assist in editing videos
  4. Assist in organizing all logistics for the staff meetings
  5. Perform any other related tasks as required

Learning Objectives

  • To gain knowledge on the work of the UN and UNITAR in particular
  • To improve knowledge about communications standards and day-to-day communications tasks in a UN context
  • To learn how to manage social media for a UN Organization
  • To develop skills in various communication areas such as branding, social media and internal communication
  • To learn about collaboration and how to work with different departments and functions
  • Gain experience in working in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment

Measurable outputs/Deliverables/Schedule of Deliverables

  • Regular maintenance and updates on UNITAR social media accounts
  • Quality and timely delivery of communications materials (articles, guides, videos, …)

Performance Indicators for Evaluation of Results

  • Social media updated daily
  • Quality of communication materials delivered
  • Active participation within communications projects
  • Frequency and quality of interactions with staff from all sections

Required Skills or Knowledge in the following:

  • Knowledge in corporate communications
  • Excellent writing skills (English)
  • Native or advanced level English and working knowledge of French (an asset)
  • Excellent command of MS Office suite (Word, Excel PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of Office 365 tools and functionalities (an asset)
  • Good knowledge of Adobe suite (a big +) Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier Pro, Dreamweaver
  • Team player
