This new and exciting course will begin on the 25 February 2013 for a duration of eight weeks. It will challenge interested participants and enable them to better understand the climate change policy framework; one of the greatest challenges of 21st century diplomacy and international governance. It will build an appreciation of the science, causes and impacts of climate change, the history of the policy making process and the UNFCCC framework. It will also include relevant challenges climate change negotiators currently face and move towards establishing a new global agreement by 2015.

Participants will take a close look at gender in the negotiations and also the specific interests of parties who are most vulnerable to impacts of climate change. This course will facilitate the development of a solid understanding of international climate change policy framework, including the climate change negotiations to date under the UNFCCC, as well as develop an appreciation for international considerations for climate change decision-making. Climate change mitigation and adaption will be defined, the key issues in the ongoing international climate change negotiations will be appraised, and understanding what is on the negotiating table as well as how to build and move forward from the outcomes of COP18 will be discussed.
