CIFAL El Salvador Hosted the Urban Morning: Central America Towards the Implementation of the New Urban Agenda

29 September 2016, San Salvador, El Salvador – CIFAL El Salvador jointly with the Habitat III Secretariat, the Central American Integration System (SICA) and the Central American Council of Housing and Human Settlements (CCVAH) hosted the dialogue “Urban Morning: Central America towards the implementation of the New Urban Agenda”, bringing together the Vice Ministers of Housing from El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Belize, and the Dominican Republic.

The dialogue facilitated a dynamic and interactive discussion on strategies and actions to be taken by the region to foster sustainable urban development. A consensus and a regional position was reached by the country representatives towards the New Urban Agenda that will be adopted during the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Development (Habitat III) in October in Quito.

During the meeting, mechanisms for follow-up and implementation of the New Urban Agenda were discussed and agreed by the eight countries. The government officials also reaffirmed a renewed commitment towards adequate housing and sustainable urban development during the meeting.

The Vice-president of the Republic of El Salvador and Chairman of CIFAL El Salvador Mr. Oscar Ortiz along with the Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Jaime Miranda, and the Director of CIFAL El Salvador Carlos Palma met with Mr. Roi Chiti from the Habitat III Secretariat to discuss El Salvador’s plan to advance sustainable urbanization and promote safer cities.
