Programme description

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is a training arm of the United Nations System, serving some 40,000 beneficiaries annually by conducting close to 500 capacity development and research activities around the world. We empower individuals, governments and organizations through knowledge and learning to effectively overcome contemporary global challenges. The Mission of UNITAR is to develop capacities of individuals, organizations and institutions to enhance global decision-making and to support country-level action for shaping a better future. Training targets include two key groups of beneficiaries: the delegates to the United Nations and others who develop intergovernmental agreements establishing global norms, policies, and programmes, and the key national change agents who turn the global agreements into action at the national level.

UNITAR offers various training and capacity-development activities including in the area of “Peaceful and Just Societies” through the Peacekeeping Training Programme (PTP). Recognizing that peace is a pre-requisite for sustainable development, the Programme’s mission is to enable people and institutions to make meaningful contributions towards the peaceful resolution of conflicts and the building of lasting peace. The Programme offers people-cantered solutions to address capacity gaps by transferring knowledge and skills and contributing to transforming attitudes and behaviours.

Call description

The Peacekeeping Training Programme is now calling for experienced trainers / subject matter experts to join its roster. PTP seeks for individuals who can support the programme in enabling people and institutions to make meaningful contributions towards the peaceful resolution of conflicts and the building of lasting peace. More specifically, thematic areas covered by the call are as follows:

Minimum requirements

Advanced degree in one of the above-mentioned fields with proven experiences are necessary. Proficiency in English is essential; proficiency in French or other UN languages will be considered as an asset.

UNITAR will contact eligible candidates and any persuasion will disqualify the application; only short listed candidates will be invited for the interview. Successful candidates will be included in the roster for the maximum period of 3 years. Membership beyond the 3-year period must be renewed through a new application process.
