UNITAR Board of TrusteesFrom 31 January to 1 February 2011, UNITAR’s Board of Trustees met in Geneva for its 50th regular session. Highlights of the session include the approval of the revision to the Institute’s 2010-2011 Programme Budget and taking note of progress in implementing the 2010-2012 Strategic Plan with the new business model and the mobilization of self-generated income very much at the centre of discussion. The Board also took note of the status of the Fellowship Fund which was newly created in line with the Strategic Plan to facilitate access to fee-based training services for participants coming from developing and particularly the least-developed countries.

Among other items, the Board also took note of the Institute’s draft Monitoring and Evaluation Policy Framework which is designed to strengthen the Institute’s programming efficiencies, effectiveness and accountabilities; the recommendations of the second session of the Advisory Board of the Peacekeeping Training Programme and the re-launching of the Local Development Programme.

UNITAR Board of TrusteesThe Board is composed of eminent personalities appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General and currently includes 16 members from the UN’s five geographic regions. While members serve in their personal capacity, the Board’s composition includes members from permanent missions, international organizations, local authorities, nongovernmental organizations and academia.

The 51st session of the Board will take place in November 2011 and is tentatively scheduled to convene in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo.
