2013 UNITAR-MGIMO International Law Training to help CIS Government Officials respond to energy security related challenges

26 April 2013, Moscow, Russia. – For the second year in a row now, UNITAR has teamed up with MGIMO University (Moscow State Institute of International Relations) to deliver a comprehensive week-long course in the area of international law. The course aims to equip mid and junior level government officials with practical knowledge and skills, as well as a solid theoretical basis in a select area of particular relevance for the CIS region.

UNITAR New York Office holds an orientation course on the General Assembly for Diplomats of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

13 May 2013, New York, USA - UNITAR welcomed over 25 delegates of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in New York from 8-9 May. Ambassador Ahmad Kamal, Senior Fellow at UNITAR and Former President of ECOSOC,introduced the workshop with a lively presentation, giving an overview of the History of the United Nations, including the background and history of the UN Charter and its different chapters.

New online technologies can unleash the power of crowds for science and emergencies

8 May 2013, Geneva, Switzerland - UNOSAT, CERN and the University of Geneva have worked together to research IT applications and web-supported platforms to connect science and society and enable the minds of millions of volunteers to contribute to solving scientific problems and work on globalized issues such as deforestation and disaster reduction. Results suggestthat web-enabled platforms have a bright future. A new IT ecosystem proves that the alliance between science and volunteer computing has the potential to change the world we live in. UNITAR NYO hosts workshop on elections to UN organs

2 May 2013, New York, USA—Thirty delegates gathered at the United Nations Headquarters to participate in UNITAR New York Office’s capacity building workshop for Election Officers, “Gearing up: Elections to UN Organs.”

Workshop participants build skills in leadership, communication and personal impact in the workplace

2 May 2013, Geneva, Switzerland. In partnership with the Permanent Mission of the United Kingdom, UNITAR delivered a unique training on leadership and personal impact. A workshop that aimed to provide the participants with an exceptional opportunity to recognize their personal leadership strengths.

2012 Beneficiary and Event Statistics

In 2012, the Institute reached out to 27,387 individuals from virtually all Member States of the United Nations. The figure is inclusive of all types of events, from training and training-related briefings, courses, seminars and workshops to events reaching out to the public at large, such as conferences, public lectures, and side events. The figure also includes beneficiaries from events organized by other organizations and in which the Institute made important contributions.

Quality Assurance Framework for learning now in place

As a training and capacity development organization, UNITAR places much emphasis on knowledge transfer, skills development and awareness-raising for a broad spectrum of beneficiaries around the world. In fact, more than two-thirds of the Institute’s 400 some annual programming events are directly associated with learning outcomes, producing thousands of beneficiaries with increased capacities.
