The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is a principal training arm of the United Nations, working in every region of the world. In 2022, UNITAR reached over 395,987 learners through face-to-face seminars and workshops, e-learning and other training-related events.
UNITAR is the only United Nations entity with a presence in the symbolic city of Hiroshima. Established in 2003, our Hiroshima Office is part of the UNITAR Division for Prosperity and develops and delivers needs-based training in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To date, the Hiroshima Office has reached nearly 60,000 learners in least-developed countries, conflict and post-conflict states, and fragile states, as well as people living in Japan.
With our official supporting organization, UNITAR Association (Japanese website), the Hiroshima Office also conducts outreach, builds partnerships with entities in Japan and hosts public events to raise awareness and interest among the Japanese public in international cooperation and peace.
