30 September 2024, Geneva, Switzerland – The United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT) has released the 9th update of its assessment of the damage inflicted on buildings in the Gaza Strip. This analysis, based on very high-resolution satellite imagery collected on 3 and 6 September 2024, shows that two thirds of the total structures in the Gaza Strip have sustained damage.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on September 6, 2024, between the International Centre on Space Technologies for Natural and Cultural Heritage (HIST) under the auspices of UNESCO and the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT). The agreement was formalized during the 4th Forum on Earth Observation for Sustainable Development Goals, signaling a major advancement in the use of space technology for the protection of World Heritage sites.

27 September 2024, New York, USA - UNITAR in collaboration with international NGO Together for Safer Roads (TSR) and with the support of AB InBev, launched the “Fleet Safety Global Training Programme” aimed at delivering joint training designed to empower small to mid-size fleets to improve their safety systems.

UNITAR co-organized a Summit of the Future side event “Intergenerational Dialogue for a Sustainable Future: Shaping Inclusive Society through Digital Power” on 19 September. This event was held in partnership with the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations in New York, the Permanent Mission of Monaco to the United Nations in New York, the Permanent Mission of Ecuador to the United Nations in Geneva, and the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth. Leaders and youth from diverse fields discussed their perspectives on how digital technologies can be harnessed to create an inclusive society and promote sustainable prosperity and peace.

24 September 2024, New York, USA – On the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, UNITAR hosted its Partnership for Action on Road Safety meeting with the objective of reviewing progress, sharing new initiatives, highlighting successes and priorities, and foster connections among road safety leaders to enhance collaboration and multiply effective interventions.

24 September 2024, Geneva – On 2 June 2024, 63 government officials from Latin American countries completed the second edition of a specialized training course on trade, food security, and nutrition, conducted by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The course, delivered in Spanish, aimed to enhance the capacity of policymakers in the region to address the complex links between agricultural trade and food security.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research New York Office (UNITAR NYO) once again partnered with the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations for the 8th annual Joint Swiss-UNITAR Briefing on Budgetary Matters. The 3-day briefing was held on 03-05 September 2024 at the United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA) Room, located at the United Nations Secretariat.

This briefing, a key tool for diplomats, focused on providing insight into the operations of the UN’s General Assembly and its Main Committees, offering an invaluable platform for interaction and learning.
