As part of the cooperation agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), an annual Regional Capacity Development Programme was implemented. The general theme of the Programme was “Regional Integration Organisations as a Factor of the Modern Politics: opportunities and risks for CIS and other countries”. This annual capacity development activity was jointly organized by the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO-University) and UNITAR.

Practitioners from all over Africa were put together with wonderful resource persons and experts, to reflect deeply on mediation, and most importantly, on prevention and transformation of conflict in Africa.
From the course I learnt how to select altitude, or how to select by location, and how to collect the data. It’s a good app for us to collect some data for produce.
It captured my attention a lot because that is what Guyana needs […] how to use GIS, especially in the area of DRR, but mostly for the emergency response.
Some skills can be repeated and shared, like impact assessment using satellite images, that is quite easy to reapply.
I got some more in-depth knowledge and I was able to contribute to the project proposal writing of the think-tank in a more informed and professional manner.
With the start of the reform process, I have discovered that elections were about much more than just dispute resolution, which I had been previously concentrating on, and becoming part of it required from me now a thorough understanding of the whole electoral framework.
On 13-15 November 2018, the Togolese Public Administration School (ENA), UNITAR and UNDP held a national workshop aimed at strengthening the capacities of senior civil servants to lead the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and SDGs. This was the first national-level pilot of UNITAR’s toolkit “Policy cycle, integrated approaches and SDGs” targeted towards African Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
