International Forum on Transparency and Competitiveness
UNITAR affiliated training center –CIFAL Curitiba-, in collaboration with the Federation of Industries of the State of Parana (FIEP), is organizing the International Forum on Transparency and Competitiveness, to be held in Curitiba, Brazil on the 5th and 6th of November 2013. This Forum aims to broaden discussion on the topic of anticorruption within the framework of the Private Sector.
Corruption is an issue that affects both society and local development. In the business environment, corruption also affects competitivenes. The best examples of combating corruption come from some of the most competitive countries in the world. Countries such as Singapore, New Zealand, Denmark, and Finland are countries with low levels of corruption and high levels of competitiveness. In contrast, countries with lower levels of competitiveness retain a higher placement in the corruption ranking.
In recent years, many anti-corruption movements have emerged worldwide. However, the private sector has shown little interest in the matter. With the realization that there was a need to engage the private sector in fighting corruption, the Global Compact launched a Call for Action in April 2013 with the objective of ensuring that our global future will be based on ethical business practices and good governance.
In line with this Call for Action, this International Forum will bring about the global agenda on anticorruption and will promote knowledge exchange between the private sector and other sectors. It will focus on the potential damage that corruption brings to the private sector and the tools that can be applied to define the role of businesses toward combating corruption.
More than 700 people from the business community are expected to attend this event.
